Background

Using Autodesk’s i-drop® technology, manufacturers can offer simplified access to digital building product content over the Web. By leveraging the value of digital information, manufacturers provide an opportunity for their products to be specified in building models and construction documents while designers experience significant productivity benefits by conveniently dragging manufacturing content from the Web and dropping it into their drawings in Autodesk® Architectural Desktop, Autodesk® Building Systems, and AutoCAD®.

Since Autodesk introduced the i-drop® technology, many manufacturers have tested the waters and the enthusiasm from the design community has been extremely enthusiastic. The response from users has been so encouraging that Autodesk has built the i-drop technology into all of its AutoCAD-based products.

However, manufacturers have found the creation and management of comprehensive i-drop web sites to be a daunting task. Most manufacturers have large product lines that are in constant flux with the introduction, modification or obsolescence of products.

Manufacturers have also expressed a desire to build on the core i-drop functionality and provide a unique user experience that improves the chances of their products being explicitly specified after the content is accessed from their site.

Until now, there has not been a solution in the marketplace to address these concerns.
