Duct Calculator is a powerful tool that provides access to duct calculation and sizing capabilities either as a standalone Windows program or from within the Autodesk Building Mechanical design environment.

Windows Version

Used as a standalone application in the Windows environment, Duct Calculator dramatically simplifies the process of sizing ductwork. Based on the engineering data and procedures outlined in the ASHRAE Fundamentals Handbook Calculation Methods, Duct Calculator is a flexible and intuitive tool that makes you more productive by streamlining the duct design process while improving the accuracy of your calculations.

Integrated with Autodesk Building Mechanical

You can also use Duct Calculator to automatically resize ductwork created with Autodesk Building Mechanical. Just select a duct object to display its dimensions and shape properties in Duct Calculator. You can then enter air flowrate and design velocity and calculate friction losses and duct sizes. If the duct object’s original dimensions are modified by these calculations, use Duct Calculator’s Assign button to update the properties of the original duct, as well as any connected duct components on the branch.

Alternatively, you can access Duct Calculator while using the Building Mechanical Add Duct or Modify Duct commands. Just click on Duct Calculator in the taskbar to access its calculations and enter the results directly into the Add Duct or Modify Duct dashboards.

Dynamic and Accurate

Duct performance characteristics are all inter-related. Change the air flowrate characteristic, and one or more of the other performance characteristics must adjust to compensate. Duct Calculator provides you with instant, graphical feedback, interactively updating its results with each adjustment you make. This ensures that Duct Calculator’s displayed results are never out of synch.

The intuitive user interface provides ample graphical feedback to first time users while staying out of the way of experienced users. And anyone who has ever used a manual duct calculator will feel right at home using Duct Calculator’s handy controls to fine tune air flowrate, velocity and friction. The slide controls provide real-time, interactive feedback; as you spin one, the others dynamically respond in real time.

Fully Configurable Design Preferences

Pressure, roughness factor, design temperature and duct material are all accessed via the Duct Calculator Preferences tool bar button.

And the powerful Dimension Rules functionality gives you complete control over Duct Calculator’s sizing algorithms. With the intuitive Dimension Rules construction tool you can easily build logic expressions that govern the rounding of dimension values as well as size and shape constraints.

Full Metric and Imperial Support

You can simply click on various areas of the Duct Calculator dialogue box to use any combination of imperial or metric units. In fact, Duct Calculator can be used for quick unit conversions in addition to designing and sizing duct.
